Pediatric Dermatology

What is Pediatric Dermatology?

Pediatric dermatology is a sub-specialty of dermatology that deals with the care of children and adolescents with a wide variety of skin problems.

When it comes to young patients, pediatric dermatologists are expert in the:

Diagnosis and treatment of birthmarks, congenital skin disorders, diaper dermatitis, hemangiomas, genetic skin disorders, acne, eczema, contact dermatitis, psoriasis, alopecia (hair loss), nail abnormalities, and skin infections such as impetigo, herpes simplex virus and ringworm (fungal infections)
Medical and or surgical treatment of warts and molluscum contagiosum
Surgical removal of small skin lesions (irritated moles, cysts)
Skin biopsies

Children are not just small adults. They cannot always say what is bothering them. They cannot always answer medical questions, and are not always able to patient and helpful during a medical exam. Pediatric dermatologists know how to examine and treat children in a way that puts them at ease.

Dr. Jonathan Trager is one of less than 20 board-certified pediatric dermatologists in the state of New York.

If your pediatrician suggests that your child see a pediatric dermatologist, you can be assured that Dr. Trager will provide him or her with the best possible dermatological care.
